கொட்டாவி விடும்போது காது அடைத்துக் கொள்வது ஏன்? 

மனிதனின் காது புறச்செவி, நடுச்செவி, உட்செவி எனப் பிரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. நடுச்செவியானது தொண்டைப் பகுதியோடு ‘யூஸ்டேசியன்’ என்ற குழல் மூலம் இணைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த இணைப்பு மிக அவசியமானதாகும். நம் செவிப்பறையின் வெளிப்புறமும் உட்புறமும் ஒரே மாதிரியான அழுத்தம் இருக்க வேண்டும். 

இல்லையெனில் செவிப்பறை கிழிந்துவிடும். இந்தச் சம அழுத்த நிலைக்கு யூஸ்டேசியன் குழல் உதவுகிறது. கொட்டாவி விடும்போது, அதிக அளவு காற்று தொண்டைப்பகுதிக்கு வந்து வெளியேறுகிறது. அப்போது யூஸ்டேசியன் குழலுக்குள்ளும் அழுத்த வேறுபாடு ஏற்படுகிறது. சில நொடிப் பொழுது காது அடைத்துக்கொள்வது இதனால் தான்!

Why do you block your ears while yawning?

The human ear is divided into outer ear, middle ear and inner ear. The middle ear is connected to the pharynx by the Eustachian tube. This link is very important. The outside and inside of our eardrum should have the same pressure.

Otherwise the eardrum may be torn. The Eustachian tube helps in this equalization of pressure. When yawning, a large amount of air enters and exits the throat. Then there is a pressure difference in the Eustachian tube. This is why the ears get blocked for a few seconds!
